Evidence Locker uploads run in the background so you can keep working while large files transfer. Uploads continue even as you move between pages, and you watch progress in a panel that docks to the bottom-right corner of the screen.
Before you begin
- You need a role that can upload to the case you're working in — Account Owner, Account Admin, or a Case Manager assigned to that case.
- Open the case whose storage you want to add to. Case files live under that case's Workspace.
Where uploaded files live
Files are organized into folders within a case workspace. When you upload, files land in the folder you currently have open. The same upload system also feeds:
- Team storage (organization-wide folders) — see Team Storage
- Share upload links, where outside parties add files to a case — see Sharing with Outside Parties
Upload files or a folder
- Open the case Workspace and navigate to the folder you want to fill.
- Start an upload one of these ways:
- Use the Upload control (the upload icon is always available in the top bar; folder views also offer Upload Files and Upload Folder).
- Drag and drop files or a whole folder onto the file list.
- Pick files, or choose Upload Folder to bring in an entire directory — the folder structure is preserved.
- The upload begins immediately and the upload panel appears.
You can select many files at once, or an entire folder tree. Folder uploads are shown as a single grouped row in the panel (for example, "Instagram (148 files)").
Track progress in the upload panel
The panel docks at the bottom-right and shows every file in the current session:
- A header reads Uploads (X of Y) — how many have finished.
- Filter pills let you view All, Completed, or Failed.
- Each row shows the file name, type, size, and a live progress bar with a percentage. Folder rows show overall folder progress and a file count.
- Minimize the panel to a compact bar and click it to expand again.
You don't need to stay on that folder's page — navigate anywhere in the app and the transfer keeps going.
Pause, cancel, retry
- Cancel an in-progress file with the ✕ on its row, or Cancel all from the filter bar.
- If a file fails, the row turns red; click retry (the circular arrow) to try again. The system also auto-retries transient failures a few times on its own.
- Remove finished, cancelled, or failed rows with the ✕ to tidy the list.
- Closing the panel cancels anything still uploading and clears completed rows.
Supported previews
Once a file is uploaded you can open it in the built-in viewer without downloading it. Supported preview types:
| Type | Examples |
|---|---|
| Images | JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, AVIF, SVG, ICO, and more |
| Audio | MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A, and more |
| Video | MP4, M4V, MOV, WebM, OGV |
| Documents | PDF — other document formats (like Word) are converted to PDF automatically so they preview cleanly |
If a file type isn't previewable, the viewer says so and you can still download the original.
Tips for large evidence sets
- Large files are split into chunks and uploaded in parallel, so multi-gigabyte items transfer reliably and resume after a hiccup.
- Several files upload at once; the rest queue and start automatically as slots free up.
- Keep your browser tab open until the panel shows everything Completed — minimizing is fine, but fully closing the tab stops in-flight transfers.
