This guide walks a new user from zero to signed in. There are two ways people join Evidence Locker:
- You're starting a new company account — sign up, verify your email, then log in. You become the Account Owner.
- You were invited — an admin at your firm sent you an invitation email; skip to Accepting an invitation.
Sign up for a new account
Signing up creates your company (your "account") and makes you its Account Owner.
- Go to the app and choose Sign Up.
- Fill in First Name, Last Name, Account Name (your company or organization), and Email.
- Complete the "I'm human" verification below the form.
- Click Sign Up.
You'll see a confirmation that your account was created and that a verification link was emailed to you. If it doesn't arrive, use the Trouble receiving the email? option on that screen to resend it.
Already have a login? If you were invited into someone else's account and now want one of your own, sign up with the same email address you already use. Your existing login carries over — you keep one password and switch between accounts from inside the app. You can own one company account; if you already own one, registration will ask you to sign in instead.
Pricing is pay-as-you-go and includes your first 1 TB of storage. The Account Owner sets up the subscription after first sign-in — see Billing and Subscription.
Verify your email
Open the email from Evidence Locker and click the verification link. You must verify before you can log in — this activates your account. After verifying, return to the login page.
Accepting an invitation
If an admin invited you, you'll get an email with an invitation link that opens the Accept Invitation page. There you:
- Confirm your Email.
- Choose a Password and confirm it (passwords must match, minimum 12 characters).
- Complete the human-verification check.
- Click Set Your Password.
Your account is now active with the role the admin assigned to you. Head to the login page to sign in.
If you already have an Evidence Locker login, the page recognizes you and asks only to confirm your email address — there are no password fields, and the button reads Activate Your Account. Your existing password is unchanged.
- Open the login page.
- Enter your Email and Password (use the eye icon to reveal what you typed).
- Complete the human-verification check.
- Click Sign In.
Your browser may ask permission to show notifications — allow it to get live alerts inside the app.
If two-factor authentication is enabled for your login, Evidence Locker emails you a One Time Pin after you enter your password. Paste the code into the verification screen — it's valid for 5 minutes — and click Sign In.
Turn on two-factor authentication
You control two-factor authentication for your own login:
- Open the user menu (top-right), choose Personal Settings, then the Security tab.
- Find Two Factor Authentication — the status shows Enabled or Disabled.
- Toggle it on, then click Update.
Once enabled, every future sign-in asks for the emailed One Time Pin. You can switch it back off from the same screen. Admins can also require two-factor for the whole company — see Billing and Subscription.
To change your password, use Change Password on the same Security tab. New passwords must be at least 12 characters.
Find your way around
After signing in you land on the Dashboard. The left side menu adapts to your role and may include:
- Dashboard — company-wide overview of cases, custodians, and storage
- Cases — the matters you can access
- Workspace — the case you currently have open (its folders, acquisitions, and sharing)
- Team — organization-wide shared storage
- Links — share links you've created
- Examiner — the evidence viewer for parsed phone reports
Each menu item also has a keyboard shortcut — ⌃⌘ plus a letter on macOS, Ctrl Alt plus a letter on Windows and Linux (for example C for Cases, U for Users). Hover over an item to see its key, or see Keyboard Shortcuts for the full list.
The top-right user menu holds Personal Settings, Account & Billing (for admins and owners), Switch Accounts (if you belong to more than one company), and Log off. The bell icon shows live notifications, and the upload control starts uploads from anywhere.
