Optimizing Large Uploads

Practical tips for uploading large device extractions and acquisitions reliably and quickly.

Forensic acquisitions can be enormous — a single device extraction may run to tens or hundreds of gigabytes. These tips help large uploads complete reliably and as quickly as your connection allows.

Before you upload

  • Check your available bandwidth. Upload speed is usually the limiting factor. On a typical connection, a large extraction may take some time — plan accordingly.
  • Use a wired connection when possible. Wired networks are more stable than Wi-Fi for long transfers.
  • Confirm the archive is intact. A corrupt or partial archive will fail validation; verify it before starting.

During the upload

  • Don't close the session prematurely. Let the upload run to completion.
  • Avoid competing transfers. Other large downloads or uploads on the same connection will slow things down.
  • Watch the status. The platform reports progress so you can confirm the transfer is advancing.

After the upload

Once the upload finishes, processing happens in the background:

  • Large acquisitions are parsed, hashed, and indexed automatically.
  • You'll see the acquisition's status update as processing completes.
  • You don't need to keep the page open during background processing.

If an upload struggles

  • Retry on a better connection if your network is unstable.
  • Split very large collections into multiple acquisitions where it makes sense.
  • Contact support at 1 (213) 375-8000 if a specific upload repeatedly fails — we can help diagnose the issue.

The platform is built to handle large forensic datasets; most upload problems come down to network conditions on the sending side, which the tips above address directly.
